Privately commissioned project to design a new family dwelling in rural County Mayo. The site affords expansive south-west facing views over rolling hills and on towards Croagh Patrick mountain. The house design is a contemporary take on vernacular rural Irish architecture. Local materials and features such as a natural slate pitch roof, smooth plaster painted walls and natural stone cladding are presented in a contemporary design. The carport and garage adjoin the main house so as to allow sheltered movement between the spaces whilst also creating an east facing courtyard. The heart of the house, the kitchen/living area, takes up centre stage in the floor plan with the layout getting the best of the views and day long sunlight. Upstairs the master suite takes priority and is granted exclusive views over the countryside through a large gable window.
