Privately commissioned project to design a new family dwelling in rural County Mayo. The
house design is a contemporary take on vernacular rural Irish architecture. Local materials and features such as corrugated sheeting, smooth plaster painted walls and natural stone cladding are presented in a contemporary design which makes use of spectacular views and a south-west facing sloped site.
The house is broken into two carefully considered volumes: A two-storey ‘Bedroom Wing’;
which is designed to resemble a traditional white rendered farmhouse and a single storey
‘Living Wing’ which takes cues from traditional farm structures, such as barns and sheds
for livestock. Both wings are connected by a flat roof stone and glass link which also forms a central entrance to the dwelling.
